Williams Fork Reservoir is located near the town of Parshall in Grand County, Colorado and is owned and operated by Denver Water. The reservoir impounds the Williams Fork of the Colorado River.

When the reservoir is full, its elevation is 7,811 feet. With a 15.8 miles shoreline.  The reservoir's surface area is 1,860 acres.


The Williams Fork Dam and Power Plant was completed in 1959 and provides electricity and water to the Western Slope or Denver metropolitan area in Colorado. It's a concrete dam, 217 feet high and with a length of 600 feet at its crest. The reservoir impounds about 97,000 acre feet of water (one acre foot=325,851 gallons), and the power plant contains a 3,158-kilowatt generator.

The lake is generously stocked for fishing by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Tent, trailer and recreational vehicle (RV) camping and picnic sites are available.  No fees for camping or use of the area. There are outside toilets and trash receptacles are on site.  No drinking water on site and fire wood is scarce.  Very nice fire pits at most of the camp sites.  There is a RV sewer dump on site.

Williams Fork Reservoir provides good fishing for large northern pike, large lake trout, cut-throat rainbow, brown trout, and kokanee salmon.

Directions to Williams Fork Reservoir:


From Denver take Interstate 70 to the Highway 40 (Empire) exit.
Take Highway 40 past Empire, over Berthoud Pass, through Winter Park, Fraser, Tabernash, Granby and Hot Sulphur Springs until you reach the town of Parshall.


At Parshall turn left (south) on Route 3; follow the road to the Williams Fork entrance.
